The problem

Documentation is about to stop being optional.

From August 2, the EU AI Act requires AI-generated content to be labelled (Art. 50).

European Parliament hemicycle in Brussels

Up to €15 million

or 3 % of worldwide turnover, whichever is higher. That is the penalty the EU AI Act sets for AI content that reaches an audience unlabelled and undocumented (Art. 50). The obligation falls on whoever publishes the work, which on most projects is the studio or the agency, not the tool that generated it.

The requirements

What clients already require.

Broadcasters, platforms and rights offices already spell out what the law means in practice:

  • The German agency association GWA, on agencies using AI tools: your co-responsibility covers “the labelling obligation and the documentation of use.” GWA KI-Whitepaper 2025

  • Netflix expects production partners to “share any intended use of GenAI”, and for final deliverables “written approval will be required before you proceed.” Netflix Partner Help Center

  • The US Copyright Office: registering work with AI in it comes with a “duty to disclose” the AI-generated parts and to describe what the human contributed. US Copyright Office

Look at what that takes per shot: which parts are AI, which tool and prompt made them, what the human changed, whose references are in it and who signed it off. That is exactly the record a BTW asset keeps.

How we solve it

See our solution for yourself.

  1. Step 01

Your work enters BTW straight from the tool.

You send the asset into BTW from the AI tool you made it in, through the browser extension. The prompt, the tool, the model and the references come across attached to the file, so nothing is retyped and nothing is lost on the way in.

    • Send the asset from the AI tool in one move, through the browser extension
    • The prompt, tool, model and references arrive attached to it
  2. Step 02

Everything reusable lives on one shelf.

Your references, the prompts and models that worked, and the project's memory all sit in the Library, searchable in one place. The next shot starts from what your team already proved instead of a blank page, and nobody hunts through folders or old chats for the version that worked.

    • References, prompts, models and project memory on one searchable shelf
    • The next shot starts from what already worked, not a blank page
  3. Step 03

Every version lines up in the order it happened.

The timeline lays the shot's whole history out in time, every generation on the day it was made, across the weeks and months of the project. You can see how the look arrived, where the direction turned, and which attempt came right before the one that shipped, without opening a single folder.

    • Every generation sits on the day it was made, week by week
    • See how the look arrived and what came right before the final
  4. Step 04

You mark the final and hand it off with its whole record.

When a version is the one, you set it as final, and the rest are held or killed with that decision recorded on the shot. You hand it off in one click, and its whole record travels with it: the prompt, the model, the references, the decision, the author and the time. The person on the other end receives the picture and the account of how it was made together.

    • Set the version that ships as final, the rest are held or killed
    • Hand off in one click with prompt, model, references, decision and author attached

saved for every producer, every week.

Less searching. More making.

Time that used to vanish into hunting down the prompt, reference and version behind a past shot, and into pulling together the proof a client asks for.

In their words

Honestly, we love it. We don't lose track of how things were made anymore, and if a client ever asks how something came together, we can just show them.

Why BTW

Neutral by design

Freepik, Runway, Midjourney. They can only document what happens inside their own walls. BTW sits above all of it.

European by design

Built in Europe, under European rules. GDPR is not a distant market requirement for us, it is home ground. And while others retrofit compliance, the documentation the EU AI Act demands is exactly what BTW produces by default.

That does not make BTW a Europe-only tool. The EU sets the strictest bar, and a record built for it travels well: the same documentation answers the US Copyright Office's disclosure duty and client questions on any continent.
